Round one of 2009 Proppa.com British Supermoto Championship

Headed up to the beautiful Cumbrian country side, and one of the best tracks in the UK at Rowrah.

After overnight rain the new surface and new off road were gleaming with wet, as the first out for qualifying, the Juniors headed into the fray.

The session ended with Joe collier MC Motors in pole position.

Race 1 saw a great battle between 3 up and coming riders in the shapes of Ben Stafford, Joe Collier, and Malachi M Thomas, with Joe coming tops in this race.

Race 2 another heated battle between these 3 with Moore racings Malachi M T topping the bill, as Kane Robson, and Zach Hulse lower down were quickening the pace race by race.

Race three win went to Malachi Mitchell Thomas, along with the overall for round one.

Next onto the grid were the Lites, with Oliver Harrison taking the lead, pushed hard by Lee Rudd, with only half a second between them, as Robert Hartley put in a good performance.

Race 2 and Mr Cool Ollie Harrison was in front again, chased by Lee Rudd and Shaun Church, GB Racing UK.

Race 3 and a different winner, after a great race, was Lewis Cornish, with James Moore, Shaun Church, Collier, and Connell, all giving good account.

Overalls for Saturday 1 Ollie Harrison 2 Lee Rudd 3 Shaun Church.

The entertaining quad group were out next, and race 1 went to Northern Irelands M Troughton, with Aaron Ebbitt 2nd and C Jackson 3rd.

Andrew Laister pulled out with bike problems, but those remaining seemed to be enjoying the Rowrah track, and in race three there was an epic battle between the rest.

Overall were 1 M Troughton  2 A Ebbitt  3 C Jackson.

SXV followed with Jerseys own Bruce Dingle in pole, and in race 1 battled hard with Chris Harrison Moto bits Aprilia

Bruce was topped by Shane Parkin in a great race 2 but was first past the line in 1 and 3 giving him first overall, followed by Darren lee 2nd with Chris Harrison 3rd.

The Cup class hand a strong contingent of riders, with the top ten separated only by seconds. Dingle and Harrison again showed their spirit in an epic battle with Ben Kirkham M W Racing, and Brad Davey Kais performance racing, as Lee Metcalfe and Dean Wingate battled out the lower orders

With Dingles clean sweep giving him overall he was followed on the day Ben Kirkham and Chris Harrison.

Elites were out last with Christian Iddon on pole Matt Winstanley second moto supplies/ silicon engineering Husqvarna. James Addy took hole shot in a great race one and led from start to finish pressured by Matt Winstanley. Ady smith gave good account in race two, hard on the heels of Winstanley, with Iddon in 3rd

Carl Shield, Keith Farmer and Richard Blakeman gave battle for 3rd and 4th, but overall for round one went to Matt, Ady, and Carl in that order.

Sunday round 2 saw the sunshine out at Rowrah and a spectacle of Supermoto unrivalled, as the times quickened in comparison to Saturdays wet race day.

The top Junior riders Joe and Malachi were straight into a furious start to finish competition, with both now at the top of their game in the improved conditions of the Sunday. Joe came out tops on the day after a hard charging 3 races with Ben Stafford and Kane Robson always there in there in the mix.

The Lites Olly H was as smooth as ever, as Lee Rudd and Lewis Cornish did their best to thwart him for the 3 races, as Joe Collier, James Moore and a credible 5th by Junior Malachi M T, all added to the toe curling spectacle, but ol smoothy maxed out on the day.

The Quads were as exciting as Saturday but their speed on a dry track was awesome, as they charged around like demented bugs. New to the British Supermoto champ,s their presence was welcome, a few more of these guys would provide some real entertainment.

M Troughton maximised the day as the following order shifted.

SXV, and Bruce Dingle was pushed hard by Shady Shane Parkin, premier bikes, as  Darren Lee, Chris Harrison, Jack Fay, Brad Davey and Lee Abbott were always somewhere in the melee.

Clubmans race one and Dingle again over Chris Harrison and Brad Davey pushed hard by Peter Bennit. Bruce the governer Dingle was always in total control though, ding dong.

Elites came out to play and Christian Iddon took the holeshot chased all the way to the line by Ady Smith and Craig Venske, as a last corner pass put Matt Winstanley into second.

Race two and Christian holeshot again, and was chased hard by an on form David Hartley, as Carl Shield and Chris Hodgson fought for position.

Race 3 and Matt Winstanley took the holeshot chased by Christian and a determined Carl Shield. Sam Warren, Alice racing Aprilia achieved fourth over all in round two.

NAMEPLATE SERVICES SM LITES

We have great pleasure in welcoming our new class sponsor for 2009 for the 250 “Lites” class.  “Nameplate Services” are a Rochdale based Screen Printers & Computerised Engravers who do allsorts of tricky little things with lasers and the like for some very big multi-national businesses. The owner is Alastair “Bill” Holt who, when not working hard, likes nothing better than to get out on his tricked up XR650 and go and watch Supermoto Racing all over the country. With his business doing well this year despite the gloomy times Alastair wants to put something back into the sport he loves and we are really pleased he is helping out our fantastic Lites class.  Check out what Alastair does at www.nameplateservices.co.uk he promises to do “mates rates” for any Supermoto related enquiry but watch out he may ask for a crack on your bike. You will soon start to see his handiwork brighten up our Championship this year as his new Digital Banner Printer starts to kick out some stuff.

MUK JUNKIE BEST PREPPED BIKE AWARD

You may not be as quick as Winstanley or Iddon but you can certainly win one of our new awards for 2009 without even getting to the start line.

BSMC have teamed up with Muk Junkie to offer an award at every round for the best prepared and turned out bike. Judging this will be our own Chief Technical Officer, Stuart Smith and before deciding on the award Stuart will take into account not just how the bike looks on the night before race day, but more importantly how it turns up on the grid for each race.

But what about Muk Junkie well I can’t put it better than in their own words “There are cleaning products for everything these days. They all make claims to be the shiniest, strongest, fastest, blah, blah, blah.So what’s so different about Muk Junkie? Well for starters, at Muk Junkie, we like to speak plainly. Forget all the fancy talk about nano-doo-dah-micro-wotsits, our products do exactly what they say on the tin. Muk Junkie products just love muck. They love cleaning up after you’ve got dirty.”

As well as the race meet awards Muk Junkie will be giving all BSMC registered riders exclusive special discounts on their fantastic products. Check out what they do at www.muckjunkie.com with more news to follow shortly.
